Taj Al-Hadara Center for Strategic Studies held today (Saturday)a dialogue session to discuss the provincial council elections file and the most prominent obstacles facing the electoral process in the country.
A statement by the Center stated that the dialogue session was entitled (Local Governorate Council Elections between Reality and Ambition), in which A. Dr. Safaa Al-Moussawi and managed by the head of the center, A. Dr. Bahaa Al-Sabari, where the center hosted an elite group of researchers, academics, experts and specialists in Iraqi electoral affairs.
The attendees discussed previous election laws and the ideas proposed for amending an election law, as well as the most important obstacles to the electoral process for the upcoming provincial councils, while presenting several proposals and possible solutions by benefiting from previous experiences in Iraq and from the experiences of comparative countries, especially neighboring countries.
The participants in the session also addressed the main problems facing elections in general and governorate council elections in particular, such as the voter registry, the problem of reluctance to participate, the biometric card, electronic registration, and the issue of counting and sorting. The participants also emphasized a central point, which is the importance of activating the role of the media, organizations and public institutions. Especially in electoral awareness and education.
