The representative of the Al-Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc, Zainab Al-Moussawi, expected on Sunday that a person would be chosen to assume the position of Speaker of Parliament after the formation of the new provincial councils.
Al-Moussawi said, in a press interview, that “the political forces have not yet agreed on a session dedicated to choosing a new speaker for the House of Representatives,” explaining that “the president’s session will be held soon,” adding that “it will take place easily and smoothly after the formation of the new provincial councils”.

Al-Moussawi added, “The most prominent candidate to assume the position of Speaker of Parliament is the representative of the Al-Azm Alliance, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani,” indicating that “he enjoys political acceptance from all parties as he has experience for more than two terms as Speaker of Parliament,” expecting “the Sunni forces to agree in the coming days to support… Al-Mashhadani to head Parliament prior to the President’s session.
She continued, “The position of Speaker of Parliament remaining vacant is against the Iraqi law and constitution,” noting “the necessity of holding a session to elect a person who will assume the presidency of Parliament in the coming period”
