The representative of the Al-Sadiqoon, Zahra Al-Bajari, today, (Sunday) criticized the failure of the concerned authorities to contain the crisis of the rising salt tongue in the waters of Basra. While she described the measures taken by those authorities as patchwork, she warned of the repercussions of the crisis on the environmental reality in the governorate.
Al-Bajari said, according to a statement provided by her media office, that Basra is killed annually due to the failure of those responsible for the water file and the patchwork solutions of the executive authorities with repeated measures annually, and we do not see any strategic solutions to solve the water crisis and save Basra.
She pointed out that the level of salinity has reached the areas north of Basra in the Deir area, and this represents a great danger, especially since we are in the winter season, in addition to cutting off the Euphrates River in the city district of Siddah to prevent an increase in salinity. It is unfortunate that the Iranian side stopped releases from the Karun River again, which contributed to an increase in the levels of salinity. Salinity that threatens the lives of Basran people.
Al-Bajari explained that the solutions are repeated annually by relying on the irrigation of Al-Badaa water, stopping the pumping of Tigris water into the Euphrates River, and increasing water releases, and there are no plans to address the problem radically, and this confirms the failure of the Ministry of Water Resources and a clear government deficit.
She also stressed the importance of addressing the crisis by creating dams, launching the giant seawater desalination project and stations in Al-Faw, and adopting modern methods that guarantee the safety of Basra and end its thirst.
