The spokesman for the Al-Sadiqoon, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, confirmed on Tuesday that the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project is not possible without the approval of the House of Representatives, while identifying three main reasons preventing its implementation.
Al-Baldawi said in a press interview, “Extending a pipeline to transport crude oil from the Basra fields in southern Iraq to the Jordanian port of Aqaba is a major project and is a bilateral agreement that cannot be passed without a parliamentary vote”.
He added, “The pipeline project cannot be implemented for three main reasons: popular rejection and its economic damage in multiple directions, in addition to the possibility of the Zionist entity benefiting from oil, and this is unacceptable”.
He pointed out that “the House of Representatives will not accept passing any project or agreement that causes economic harm, stressing that proceeding with this project, around which many question marks are raised, is not possible in light of mounting popular and political rejection”.
