The head of the Sadiqoun parliamentary, Habib al-Halawi, called today (Sunday) for the necessity of reconsidering the economic privileges that Iraq grants to some countries, especially those that deal with the Israeli government.
Al-Halawi stressed in a press statement that this matter comes from a national responsibility to protect the interests of the Iraqi people and preserve Iraqi sovereignty.
In his statement, Al-Halawi referred in particular to the Jordanian government, which benefits from economic privileges at the expense of the Iraqi people, indicating that current regional and international developments require a comprehensive review of these privileges.
Al-Halawi added that Jordan’s recent positions, especially its direct military support for the Israeli occupation entity, and its commitment to the desperate defense of Tel Aviv, despite the damage caused to our Palestinian cause and the principled positions we adhere to in confronting the occupation, represent a violation of the principled positions that Iraq adheres to regarding the Palestinian cause.
Al-Halawi stressed that the Iraqi parliament will seriously seek to withdraw these privileges, stressing that Iraq will not stand idly by in the face of any threat to its sovereignty or strategic interests.
He also stressed that Iraq aspires to international relations based on common interests and mutual respect, but will not hesitate to take any necessary action to protect its sovereignty and national interests.
He concluded his statement by saying that the Iraqi people must be at the forefront of priorities, and that Iraq’s capabilities will not be allowed to serve any party that is hostile to the interests of the nation.
