The Head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary, Habib al-Halawi, revealed today (Wednesday) the latest developments in the vote on personal status, indicating that the law has the support of most representatives.
Al-Halawi said in a press statement, “The Sunni component took the initiative to amend some paragraphs of Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959, noting that “the Shiite component presented a code specific to the Jaafari sect”.
He added that “the law will be put to a vote next week, stressing that the Personal Status Law does justice to the Iraqi family”.
He pointed out that “the majority of representatives support moving forward with the law, which we see as important for addressing many societal issues”.
