The head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee for the Al-Sadiqoon Zahra Al-Bajari, confirmed today ( Monday) that the bloc’s final decision to vote on amending the Personal Status Law comes from a legal and humanitarian standpoint, in harmony with Islamic law and to protect the family and Iraqi society.
Al-Bujari said, according to a statement issued by her media office, that the approval of the amendment to the Personal Status Law represents a victory for the Jaafari school of thought and a reinforcement of family stability, noting that the attempts of some parliamentary to pass the laws collectively (one basket) during today’s parliament session are completely rejected.
She added that the Sadiqoon parliamentary bloc is committed to its constitutional rights to implement Article 41 of the Constitution and vote on the amendment in a way that serves the public interest, while rejecting the procrastination methods adopted by some parties.
Al-Bujari stressed that amending the law aims to reduce family disintegration and increase unjustified divorce cases, noting that the Jaafari school of thought represents the majority in Iraqi society, which makes it necessary to work on what guarantees its rights and preserves the social fabric.
Regarding the general amnesty law, Al-Bujari stressed that the current version of the law contains many objections, calling on political blocs to take into account the national interest and not to be drawn into sectarian or political considerations.
He pointed out that the Sadiqoon bloc rejects any efforts to pass laws that allow the release of terrorists or corrupt people, stressing that “Iraq is our big home that we protect with our blood and we will not allow any terrorist or corrupt person to leave”.
Al-Bujari concluded by stressing that the Sadiqoon bloc will remain loyal to the trust of the Iraqi people, adhering to its constitutional and legitimate principles to protect the country and its supreme interests.
