Al-Halawi: We are determined to pass the Popular Mobilization Law, and we will not allow terrorists to leave under the general amnesty law.

The head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary, Habib al-Halawi, confirmed on Saturday the bloc’s pivotal role in bringing al-Mashhadani to the presidency of parliament. While he pointed out that al-Mashhadani has faced major challenges since the beginning of his work, including security and controversial laws, he described him as a “national Hashd man”.
Al-Halawi said during a televised interview that Sunday’s session will begin with a discussion of the Personal Status Law, and while he explained that there are no fundamental differences on the law, he indicated that some Sunni forces are trying to cause trouble by proposing the “Code”.
He added: “There is no word about underage marriage in the law, and the girl’s marriage will be at the age of 15, and the age of custody will be included in the code,” noting that most Sunni forces do not want to pass the code, and that its introduction will be voted on in Sunday’s session.
Regarding the general amnesty law, Al-Halawi stressed that not voting on it does not mean there are disagreements on the rest of the laws, explaining that the law will not include terrorists or those involved in terrorist operations or supporting them, stressing by saying: “We will not allow any terrorist to leave prison under the umbrella of the general amnesty, and those who steal public money are not covered by the law”.
Al-Halawi considered the timing of the vote on the law to coincide with the events in Syria to be “scary,” noting that some representatives object only to stir up controversy, without attending the meetings.
In another context, Al-Halawi confirmed the existence of a comprehensive Iraqi objection to the law on confiscated properties in Kirkuk, noting that the current session will not end without passing the Popular Mobilization Law. He said: “We will not rest without voting on the Popular Mobilization Law”.
Regarding other political issues, Al-Halawi explained that the judiciary has not yet decided on the leaks case, and that there is no talk of questioning Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, noting that al-Sudani will be hosted in the coming days upon his request, calling on him to recover the cannons from the Kurds.
