Spokesman for the Sadiqoon and deputy head of the parliamentary strategic planning committee, Mohammed Al-Baldawi, confirmed today (Thursday) that the political blocs are behind the delay in the proposed ministerial amendments.
Al-Baldawi said in a press statement, “The Iraqi Council of Representatives continues to exercise its legislative and oversight role by questioning a number of ministers and officials with the aim of evaluating performance and addressing the shortcomings in government sectors”.
He pointed out that “the Prime Minister realized that there were problems that required ministerial changes, but the absence of qualified replacements and the failure to present new options prevented the implementation of this change”.
He explained that “some ministries have succeeded in performing their duties in a remarkable way, such as the Ministries of Interior, Higher Education, and Municipalities, which have achieved tangible development in the areas of roads, bridges, and services”.
He pointed out that “the government faced major challenges in sectors such as education, which it sought to address directly, in addition to real problems in the agricultural, cultural and tourism sectors”.
He explained that “the option of the ministerial amendment was in coordination with the political blocs, but the lack of a consensual response prevented its implementation, which reflects one of the challenges facing the coalition government”.
He stressed that “going towards interrogation, hosting or directing oral questions is a legislative and oversight right of the House of Representatives, and there are no obstacles from the government or objections from the Prime Minister to this option”.
He added that “this mechanism aims to enhance transparency and evaluate government performance to ensure the citizen’s interest is achieved”.
