Spokesman for the Sadiqoon and Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Strategic Planning Committee, Mohammed Al-Baldawi, confirmed today (Wednesday) that the movement and flexibility in controversial laws reflect the positives of legislative democracy.
Al-Baldawi said, “Mobility, flexibility, thinking, objection and response to controversial laws represent a positive aspect of the legislative democratic process”.
He pointed out that “democracy in Iraq is the best in the region, as the government and parliamentary institution emerge from the people’s choice through democratic elections held every four years, and power is transferred peacefully and smoothly, which enhances the stability of the political system”.
He explained that “passing laws in Parliament is done in a consensual manner, despite the presence of a parliamentary majority capable of making decisions unilaterally”.
He added that “the general trend is towards compromises between political forces to ensure that laws are passed with broader consensus that reflects the will of the various parties”.
