Al-Bajari: Parliament intends to question the Minister of Communications due to mismanagement and technical violations … She denied the existence of political targeting.

The head of the parliamentary transportation and communications committee, Zahra Al-Bajjari, confirmed on Monday that the parliament intends to question the Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, due to what she described as mismanagement and technical, financial and administrative violations that marred the ministry’s work.
Al-Bujari said during a televised interview that the parliament presidency will receive an official request next week to question the minister, while denying the existence of any political motives behind this questioning, stressing that the case relates to clear violations that have negatively affected internet services in Iraq, which are considered among the worst services in terms of quality and the highest in prices compared to neighboring countries.
Al-Bujari pointed out that internet prices in Iraq are among the most expensive in the region, while the service remains of low quality, which causes many complaints from citizens.
The head of the Transport and Communications Committee added that the minister did not provide convincing answers to the Integrity Committee regarding the smuggling of internet capacities by the “IQ” company in Kirkuk Governorate, indicating that “the Ministry of Communications had included the “IQ” company on the blacklist, but the minister granted it the transit project, without opening the door to competition for other companies”.
Al-Bujari added that the Minister of Communications had contracted with five monopolistic companies that were not licensed by the Communications and Media Commission, which renders these contracts invalid and raises many suspicions.
Al-Bujari explained that the son of the President of the Republic is one of the shareholders in the company “IQ”, which raises questions about the possibility of corruption and conflict of interest in the contracts.
Al-Bujari also pointed out that the Minister of Communications had stripped the general managers of the ministry of their powers and taken it upon herself to manage the ministry according to her personal vision, which had a negative impact on the ministry’s performance.
