Member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee for the Sadiqoon, Zainab Al-Moussawi, warned today (Monday) of the potential economic and political consequences of canceling the American exemptions granted to Iraq regarding the import of electricity and gas from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Al-Moussawi stressed that this measure could lead to a stifling crisis in the supply of electrical energy, especially during the summer, which witnesses a significant increase in demand for electricity compared to the volume of local production, which is not sufficient to cover the actual need of consumers.
Al-Moussawi pointed out that stopping the US exemptions will have a negative impact on Iraq in the short term, as it faces economic challenges and a great need for energy, which requires searching for quick and sustainable solutions to avoid the crises that may result from this decision.
Al-Moussawi called on the concerned authorities to intensify efforts to find alternatives that ensure the continued flow of electricity and reduce the negative repercussions that may affect various vital sectors in the country.
