The head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary, Habib al-Halawi, confirmed on Monday that the current Syrian president and former leader of the “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” organization, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, will not risk coming to Baghdad, stressing that the Iraqis do not want to receive him in any way.
Al-Halawi said in a televised interview that the head of the “Sovereignty” coalition, Khamis Al-Khanjar, has a special agenda, saying: “We do not consider him to be from Iraq,” referring to the existence of trends that may not be in line with the national interest.
Al-Halawi also commented on the statements of Salem Al-Issawi on the “Half Circle” program, considering that they come in the context of “revenge” and not out of the public interest, calling for controlling political discourse in a way that serves the stability of the country.
Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Halawi stressed the need for the Minister of Foreign Affairs to be an Arab and not a Kurd, pointing out the importance of this ministry reflecting Iraq’s Arab identity in its diplomatic representation.
Regarding the developments in Syria, Al-Halawi stressed that any attack on the shrine of Sayyida Zainab (peace be upon her) would be a red line, saying: “If the shrine is exposed to any scratch, we will run to Syria,” which reflects the “Sadiqoon” commitment to defending the sanctities.
On the international level, Al-Halawi stressed that former US President Donald Trump fears the resistance, explaining that the resistance will not end despite all the challenges, stressing its continuation in defending Iraq’s sovereignty and interests.
