The General Secretary of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Sheikh Qais Khazali, stressed on Monday the need to support all Iraqi security forces, especially the Popular Mobilization Forces, describing them as “Iraq’s safety valve”.
During the Eid al-Fitr sermon, Sheikh al-Khazali stated that the goal of enacting the Popular Mobilization Forces law is to secure the rights of the mujahideen, especially since their relationship with the government remains governed by temporary contracts. He noted that the PMF has not had a law that would place it on the same level as the Ministries of Interior and Defense for more than seven years.
His Eminence expressed his deep regret over the withdrawal of the Popular Mobilization Forces law from Parliament by the Prime Minister, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, considering it a negative step toward the rights of the Mujahideen who made the greatest sacrifices for Iraq.
His Eminence also criticized the favoritism shown to the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces at the expense of the rights of the mujahideen, describing it as a “crime.” He emphasized that the Iraqi government should have enacted a Popular Mobilization Forces law long ago to guarantee the rights of those who have sacrificed for the nation.
