Rafiq al-Salihi of the Sadiqoon parliamentary bloc affirmed on Saturday the bloc’s categorical rejection of any Turkish military presence within Iraqi territory, calling on the government to take decisive steps to expel these forces, in line with the previous parliament’s decision.
Al-Salihi said in a press statement that “Parliament had previously voted to end the presence of all foreign forces, primarily American and Turkish forces,” stressing that “the decision is final and not subject to any political compromises or understandings”.
He added, “There is widespread political and popular rejection of the continued Turkish presence in the north of the country, as it constitutes a clear violation of national sovereignty”.
Al-Salihi also stressed that “Iraq possesses the capabilities that enable it to maintain its security without the need for any foreign forces”.
