Zahra Al-Bajari, head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee for the Sadiqoon, confirmed on Monday that the Iraqi people are recalling with deep sorrow the 37th anniversary of the Anfal genocide, perpetrated by the bloody Ba’athist Saddam regime against our Kurdish people.
Al-Bujari said in an official statement: “The Anfal operations, which took place in 1988, are among the most heinous crimes of genocide in modern history, claiming the lives of between 50,000 and 100,000 innocent citizens, most of whom were women and children. It is a stain of shame on the forehead of the Baath Party, its henchmen, its supporters, and those who praise it under the slogan of the ‘good old days”.
Al-Bajari called on the Iraqi government, particularly the Ministry of Education, to “incorporate the crimes of the oppressive Ba’ath regime into the elementary and middle school curricula, as a lesson for future generations and a documentation of crimes that must not be forgotten”.
She added, “We will take a clear position within the House of Representatives if the ministry does not respond to these demands, which express not only our demands, but also the demands of the families of the martyrs and all those harmed by the brutality of the former regime”.
Al-Bujari concluded her statement by saying: “Mercy and eternity to the martyrs of Anfal, and eternal damnation to the oppressive and tyrannical Baathist regime”.
