Saad al-Saadi, a member of the political bureau of the Sadiqoon, said on Wednesday that the invitation to former Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader and current Syrian President Abu Muhammad al-Julani to visit Iraq represents an “insult to the blood of the martyrs,” stressing the popular and political rejection of his entry into Iraqi territory.
Al-Saadi said in a televised interview, “Al-Julani is accused of terrorist charges in Iraq, and receiving him is completely rejected by all forces”.
He explained that “the region’s challenges do not mean surrendering sovereignty or interfering in the work of the Iraqi judiciary,” emphasizing the Sadiqoon respect for the principle of separation of powers in the country.
In a related development, Al-Saadi denied the presence of a representative of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq at yesterday’s al’aitar altansiqi meeting, while also denying any doubts by his movement regarding Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s “nationalism or Shiism”.
Al-Saadi added, “His Eminence Sheikh Qais Khazali’s tweet was not harsh on al-Sudani, but rather came to express a clear stance on a sensitive issue,” suggesting that “al-Sudani may have been subjected to Gulf pressure and Qatari embarrassment that prompted him to accept the invitation”.
Al-Saadi reiterated that the al’aitar altansiqi was surprised by the invitation, noting that the prime minister finds himself in an embarrassing position with the public due to widespread rejection of the planned visit.
