Zainab al-Moussawi of the Sadiqoon confirmed on Wednesday that there is no political consensus within the Iraqi parliament to pass the oil and gas law, which has been stalled for more than 10 years.
In a post on the “X” platform, Al-Moussawi explained that the Sadiqoon bloc was a strong advocate for the passage of this law, stressing that it constitutes the cornerstone for the fair and transparent management of national wealth in Iraq, ensuring the equitable distribution of revenues and strengthening the state’s sovereignty over its natural resources.
Al-Moussawi added that the law will now be deferred to the next parliamentary session, noting that the current political and parliamentary situation does not bode well for sufficient consensus to enact it anytime soon.
