Ahmed al-Moussawi, representing the Sadiqoon, confirmed on Sunday that his bloc has a clear vision for the upcoming elections, emphasizing that voter participation is the only way to bring about any change in the political landscape.
Al-Moussawi said in a press statement that “boycotting the elections is merely a political approach, not a solution for change,” considering that active participation in the elections is the only way to change any existing political situation.
He pointed out that “the majority of the Sunni component previously opposed the political process, but the current reality is witnessing a marked change in this position,” emphasizing that “the awareness of the Iraqi voter has begun to change and develop significantly”.
Al-Moussawi noted that “the upcoming electoral competition will be concentrated in the capital, Baghdad,” while criticizing what he described as “the dominance of the ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region, which prevents the emergence of new parties.” He added that “the scope for democracy in the central, southern, and western regions is greater than it is in the region”.
Regarding the legislation regulating the political process, Al-Moussawi described the Political Parties Law as “contradictory in one of its clauses,” believing that the political process in general “requires an evolution in political awareness and discourse”.
Al-Moussawi explained that “Parliament’s role has not yet ended,” noting that “there will be an active presence during the next phase to complete the constitutional and political entitlements”.
