Zahra Al-Bajjari, chairwoman of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee for the Sadiqoon, called on Tuesday for studying the possibility of replacing the biometric voter card with a unified national card in elections. This would facilitate the voting process and reduce the need to update the voter registry frequently.
Al-Bujari explained in a press statement that the national card is used in many official transactions, such as bank loans, property transfers, and government transactions, making it a suitable option to replace the voter card.
She also pointed to the challenges facing updating biometric records, as many citizens have not responded to the commission’s calls to receive their cards. She emphasized that the civil status registry ensures that names are not duplicated, which contributes to enhancing the accuracy of the electoral process.
