The General Secretary of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Sheikh Qais Khazali, affirmed on Saturday that the situation in the Kurdistan Region requires a genuine national stance, emphasizing that the poverty rate in the region is higher than in central and southern Iraq, according to available indicators.
During his Eid al-Adha sermons, Sheikh al-Khazali said, “Official statistics confirm that the majority of Iraqi refugees abroad are from the Kurdistan Region,” noting that “the best thing about the region’s people lies in their affiliation with federal Iraq, not in calls for secession”.
His Eminence added, “The salaries of Kurdistan Region employees are still unavailable,” emphasizing that “the responsibility for running the state is a shared and shared responsibility, not one party alone.” He asserted that “all Iraqis, in all regions, have rights and duties, and there should be no discrimination between them”.
His Eminence addressed the region’s officials, saying, “It is not logical for you to demand everything without delivering anything,” noting that “the fundamental problem from which all other problems stem is that most of the Kurdistan Region’s officials are not convinced of a unified Iraq”.
His Eminence criticized what he described as “the regional government’s failure to deliver oil revenues to Baghdad,” stating that “these revenues are sold at low prices that do not benefit the Iraqi state.” He also pointed out that “the region also does not deliver revenues from official and unofficial ports to the federal government”.
His Eminence also sent a message of love to the people of the region, saying, “All the Iraqi people love you and are proud of you, people of the Kurdistan Region,” calling on them to “pressure their government to abide by the constitution and the decisions of the Federal Court”.
His Eminence denied all the circulating news in the Kurdish media about the crisis between the central government and the region, and the claim by some media outlets in Kurdistan that Sheikh Qais Khazali was the one who cut salaries, stressing that this news is false and lacks credibility.
