The Member of Sadiqoon, Ahmed Rahim Al-Moussawi, revealed on Wednesday that an important text had been replaced in the security agreement between Baghdad and Ankara regarding the continued Turkish presence inside Iraqi territory.
Al-Moussawi said in a press interview, “A memorandum of understanding was signed between Iraq and Turkey to address security concerns, but the text that included the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraq was replaced by another text, and this is considered an encouragement for the Turkish presence in the country”.
He added, “The essence of the memorandum is to deter attacks and in return for it, the Turkish forces would leave Iraqi territory, but unfortunately its provisions were disappointing. Today, we have the memorandum that was supposed to be signed between the Iraqi side and the Turkish side, which directly included addressing security concerns between the two parties and preserving the sovereignty of the two countries, including that there be a schedule and the exit of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory”.
