Head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary, Dr. Habib al-Halawi, confirmed on Wednesday that the Personal Status Law does not include any phrase related to “marriage of minors,” considering that those who criticize the law refuse to adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Al-Halawi said in a televised statement that there are some Shiite MPs who do not comply with the directives of the religious authority and object to the personal status law.
Al-Halawi explained that the Sadiqoon bloc completely rejected the idea of compromising between the laws, pointing out that the Personal Status Law was not presented in one balance with the General Amnesty Law, stressing the bloc’s rejection of the principle of “vote for me and I will vote for you” in its parliamentary dealings.
Regarding the budget, Al-Halawi pointed out that there is a dispute over Article 12, but he welcomed the development of the file of the entry of Kurdistan Region oil into the SOMO company, considering it a positive start for the region’s return to the bosom of Iraq. However, he pointed out that oil smuggling from the region is still ongoing due to the presence of companies involved in this file.
Al-Halawi also explained that the real estate laws and general amnesty came directly from the government, noting that the areas of “Balad and Dujail” were included in the new real estate law.
Regarding the Accountability and Justice Commission, Al-Halawi stressed that the decision to dissolve it requires a comprehensive study by the government to ensure that justice is achieved.
Al-Halawi concluded his statement by stressing that the bloc seeks to support decisions that serve the interests of the Iraqi people and achieve social justice.
