Representative Mohammed al-Baldawi, spokesman for the Sadiqoon, affirmed on Tuesday that Iraq’s hosting of the 34th Arab Summit is a source of great pride and honor, noting that its convening on the pure land of Iraq, the cradle of civilizations and the source of knowledge and prophecy, reflects its historical and spiritual standing among Arab countries.
“Baghdad, the capital of peace, welcomes Arab leaders to this major historic gathering to unify visions and make decisive decisions that will ensure a better future for our glorious Arab nation,” Al-Baldawi said in a statement issued by his media office. He stressed that holding the summit at this critical time in the region carries significant significance and places a double responsibility on everyone to take firm positions and strategic decisions that will strengthen Arab unity.
He added that Iraq, despite the major challenges it faces from foreign interference and internal conflicts, remains steadfast and committed to its national role. He emphasized that the current phase requires “actions, not words,” and that what is required of the summit is to achieve Arab consensus on national security issues, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, which he described as “the backbone of the nation and the measure of the justice of our causes”.
Al-Baldawi reiterated the need for a unified Arab effort to support the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, calling on the Arab Summit to take effective steps to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against Palestinian civilians.
Mohammed Al-Baldawi also called for the summit to serve as a platform for enhancing Arab cooperation in addressing the crises afflicting sister countries such as Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. He emphasized the importance of these countries within the Arab world and the need to seek urgent and sustainable solutions that preserve the dignity of their peoples and guarantee their security and stability.
He pointed out that the current summit represents a turning point in the path of joint Arab action, calling on Arab leaders to unite ranks, stand firmly against foreign interference in Arab internal affairs, and work to consolidate the sovereignty and independence of Arab states.
Al-Baldawi emphasized that Iraq, as it renews its pledge to the future today, will remain at the forefront of defending the nation’s causes and will continue its pioneering role in supporting Arab dialogue and cooperation. He noted that existing challenges can only be addressed through unity and consensus, warning that time does not permit delay or failure.
Al-Baldawi concluded his statement by stressing that the Arab Summit in Baghdad will be a new beginning for a brighter future, as Arabs work together to confront challenges and write new chapters of solidarity and achievements for the benefit of their peoples.
