Al-Jamali: The fall of Mosul is a terrorist project similar to “Al-Julani,” and accusing Shiites of it is a false justification.

Ali Turki al-Jamali, a member of parliament for the Sadiqoon, accused unnamed parties on Wednesday of attempting to blame Shiites for the fall of Mosul in 2014. He described the accusation as “nothing more than an attempt to justify suspicious projects that had been prepared in advance”.
Al-Jamali said in a press statement that “Mosul was a gateway to destruction toward the rest of the provinces,” noting that the project to overthrow the city closely resembles al-Julani’s project in Syria, which represents “more than just one person, but rather a comprehensive terrorist project”.
Al-Jamali added that the terrorist state’s project had failed in Iraq, but had succeeded in Syria today. He warned that if al-Julani were to expand, he would be a real source of concern for Iraq, indicating that some tribes in the western regions might pledge allegiance to him if he entered their areas.
Al-Jamali pointed out that the religious authority is aware of the gravity of the current situation and the threats facing the region, emphasizing that the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are a tool in the authority’s hands, and that the factions that formed before it stood against terrorism and are the foundation upon which the PMF was built.
Al-Jamali also revealed intelligence information received in 2013 about a plot to overthrow large areas of Iraq. He added that the “Ghayari al-Iraq” group was founded during the era of former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and was able to train large numbers of young men.
In response to the sectarian rhetoric, Al-Jamali emphasized that Shiites have welcomed thousands of displaced Sunnis fleeing ISIS’s brutality, while some of the sheikhs of the sit-in platforms remain active in the political scene to this day. He said that the breeding ground for terrorism remains in some Sunni areas and will not disappear anytime soon.
Al-Jamali also addressed the positions of some Sunni MPs, saying that some of them believe that Shiites are subservient to Iran, describing this as part of the abhorrent sectarian discourse. He noted that the tribes that perpetrated the Speicher massacre are hostile to Shiites.
Commenting on MP Yazan al-Jubouri’s statements, al-Jamali said, “What he said about the Sadiqoon is a lie and a complete fabrication, and has no connection to reality.” He added that the Sadiqoon has never allied with the tribes implicated in the blood of the Speicher martyrs.
Al-Jamali also revealed that a military entity attempted to politically target the Sadiqoon in Salah al-Din Governorate. However, he affirmed that the Sadiqun bloc’s electoral prospects in the governorate are good and commensurate with its growing popular presence.
